Sometimes business travel takes you just away from home and family and other times it takes you to places that many people spend their lives dreaming of visiting. Hawaii, and in particular the island of Oahu are a little of both. Oahu is in a word ‘diverse’ in all respects. A busy island with lots of tourists and the touristy types of haunts like Waikiki Beach, but it’s also a place of tremendous beauty with an array of micro-climates depending on which part of the island you happen to be. Being stationed with the Navy there in the early 80’s we used to say if you don’t like the rain just drive 10 miles and it will be nice and sunny! Of course driving 10 miles in and around Honolulu can be a day long trip as well but that’s another story.
Over the past several years business has taken us out to this tropical island that is a curious mix of paradise and paradise lost. Whenever possible we broke away from the hustle and bustle to hike the many trails and take in the beautiful beaches. The headline photo is from the Blowhole during the move to low tide. An amazing place for photography, it’s great when you can get down close to the action without worrying too much about being washed off the cliff!
